10 Easy Keto Breakfast Ideas (No Boring Eggs)

When I first tried eating keto, breakfast was the meal that nearly made me quit. No toast, no oatmeal, no cereal, and I got tired of plain scrambled eggs within a week. So I started experimenting, and now I have a whole rotation of keto breakfasts that are quick, filling and actually exciting. These 10 keto breakfast ideas are the ones I come back to most, from 5 minute options to make ahead recipes for the week.

Quick answer: Easy keto breakfast ideas include egg muffins with cheese and spinach, chia seed pudding made with coconut milk, avocado baked eggs, bacon and cheese crustless quiche, Greek yogurt with berries and nuts, cream cheese pancakes, and a low carb breakfast hash with cauliflower. Most keto breakfasts are built around eggs, healthy fats and low carb vegetables, and each of these has about 2 to 8 grams of net carbs per serving.

Every recipe below uses ingredients from a normal grocery store, and many can be made ahead.

What Makes a Breakfast Keto?

A keto diet is very low in carbs, usually around 20 to 30 grams of net carbs per day, with more fat and moderate protein. A keto breakfast skips bread, cereal, oats, potatoes, juice and most fruit, and focuses on:

  • Eggs in every form
  • Meats like bacon, sausage and ham (check labels for added sugar)
  • Healthy fats like avocado, butter, olive oil, coconut and nuts
  • Full fat dairy like cheese, cream cheese, heavy cream and plain Greek yogurt
  • Low carb vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, peppers, zucchini and cauliflower
  • Small amounts of berries like raspberries, strawberries and blackberries

If you follow keto for health reasons, please talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian first, especially if you have diabetes or take medication.

10 Easy Keto Breakfast Ideas

1. Spinach and Cheese Egg Muffins

About 1 g net carbs each. My number one keto meal prep breakfast.

How to make it: Whisk 10 eggs with ¼ cup (60 ml) heavy cream, salt and pepper. Divide 1 cup chopped spinach, ½ cup diced peppers and 1 cup (115g) shredded cheddar between a greased 12 cup muffin tin. Pour the eggs over and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 22 minutes. They keep for 4 days in the fridge. You will find more egg ideas in my egg breakfast recipes.

2. Avocado Baked Eggs

About 3 g net carbs per half.

How to make it: Halve an avocado and remove the pit. Scoop out a little flesh to make the hole bigger. Crack a small egg into each half, season, and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12 to 15 minutes until the whites set. Top with crumbled bacon and chives.

3. Coconut Chia Pudding

About 3 g net carbs per serving. A great make ahead option when you are tired of eggs.

How to make it: Stir 3 tbsp chia seeds into ¾ cup (180 ml) canned coconut milk with ½ tsp vanilla and a keto friendly sweetener. Refrigerate overnight. Top with a few raspberries and toasted coconut.

4. Cream Cheese Pancakes

About 2 g net carbs per serving.

How to make it: Blend 2 oz (55g) soft cream cheese, 2 eggs, 1 tbsp almond flour and a pinch of cinnamon until smooth. Rest for 2 minutes. Cook small pancakes in a buttered nonstick pan over medium low heat for 2 minutes per side. Serve with butter and sugar free syrup.

5. Bacon and Cheese Crustless Quiche

About 3 g net carbs per slice.

How to make it: Whisk 8 eggs with 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream, salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. Stir in 6 slices crumbled cooked bacon, 1 cup (115g) shredded Swiss or cheddar and a handful of spinach. Pour into a greased 9 inch (23 cm) pie dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes. Cut into 6 slices.

6. Greek Yogurt Berry Bowl

About 7 g net carbs. Plain full fat Greek yogurt is low enough in carbs to fit in small portions.

How to make it: Spoon ½ cup (120g) plain full fat Greek yogurt into a bowl. Top with 2 tbsp raspberries, 1 tbsp chopped walnuts, 1 tbsp unsweetened coconut and a few drops of vanilla. Cottage cheese works the same way, and I share lots of ideas in my cottage cheese breakfast roundup.

7. Cauliflower Sausage Breakfast Hash

About 5 g net carbs per serving. All the coziness of a potato hash, without the potatoes.

How to make it: Brown 8 oz (225g) breakfast sausage in a skillet. Add 2 cups (about 250g) small cauliflower florets, ½ diced onion and ½ diced pepper and cook for 10 to 12 minutes until golden. Make 4 wells, crack in 4 eggs, cover and cook 4 to 5 minutes. Top with cheese.

8. Ham and Cheese Egg Roll Ups

About 1 g net carbs. A fun 10 minute breakfast.

How to make it: Whisk 2 eggs and pour into a hot buttered nonstick pan, tilting to make a thin round. Cook until set, flip briefly, then top with a slice of ham and cheese. Roll it up like a wrap and cut in half.

9. Keto Bulletproof Style Coffee

Under 1 g net carbs. For mornings when you are not hungry yet.

How to make it: Blend 1 cup (240 ml) hot coffee with 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp MCT or coconut oil for 20 seconds until frothy. Add a splash of cream and cinnamon if you like. It is rich, but it is not a full meal, so pair it with eggs later.

10. Smoked Salmon Avocado Plate

About 3 g net carbs.

How to make it: Arrange 3 oz (85g) smoked salmon, ½ sliced avocado, a few slices of cucumber, 1 tbsp cream cheese and 1 boiled egg on a plate. Finish with capers, dill, lemon and black pepper. No cooking needed.

Keto Breakfasts at a Glance

These numbers are estimates and depend on your exact brands and portions.

My Tips for Easy Keto Mornings

  • Batch cook on Sunday. Egg muffins, quiche and chia pudding mean breakfast is done for the week.
  • Keep boiled eggs ready. Six boiled eggs in the fridge make quick snacks and breakfasts.
  • Read labels. Sausages, bacon, yogurts and coffee creamers often hide sugar.
  • Do not fear fat, but watch portions. Healthy fats keep you full, but calories still count.
  • Get your vegetables in early. Adding spinach, peppers or mushrooms to breakfast helps with fiber.

Common Mistakes

  • Eating the same eggs every day. You will get bored fast. Rotate through these ideas.
  • Forgetting hidden carbs. Flavored yogurts, ketchup and some sausages add up quickly.
  • Skipping fiber. Low fiber can leave you feeling sluggish. Add chia, flax and greens.
  • Too little protein. A breakfast of just coffee and butter will not keep most people full until lunch.

Keto Breakfast FAQs

What can I eat for breakfast on keto?

Eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, avocado, full fat yogurt in small portions, chia pudding, nuts, low carb vegetables and a few berries all fit into a keto breakfast.

What is a quick keto breakfast?

Scrambled eggs with cheese, a boiled egg with avocado, or a premade egg muffin all take less than 5 minutes.

Can I eat fruit on keto?

Small amounts of berries like raspberries, blackberries and strawberries fit into most keto plans. Bananas, mangoes and most other fruits are too high in carbs.

Is keto good for weight loss?

Some people find it helps them eat less because high fat, high protein meals are filling. It is not right for everyone, so talk to a healthcare professional first.

Can I eat oatmeal on keto?

Regular oats are too high in carbs. Try chia pudding or a hot “noatmeal” made with hemp hearts, flaxseed and coconut instead.

What is a good keto dinner after a keto breakfast?

Any meal built on protein and low carb vegetables works. My low carb dinner ideas, like garlic butter steak bites and Tuscan chicken, all fit nicely.

Final Thoughts

Keto breakfasts do not have to be boring. With egg muffins and chia pudding in the fridge, and a few quick recipes like avocado eggs and cream cheese pancakes in your back pocket, you will look forward to breakfast again. Pick two or three to try this week.
